I heard that the Versa Pro is being discontinued and was wondering if anyone knows why?
Also I was looking at the comparison chart at the Oceanic site and both of these dive computers are the same. There was only one difference and that was the Versa pro is able to upload to the pc and the Veo can only download.

Since I am new to diving I was wondering what eveyones take is on this computer and also the reliability of them. Scuba Toys has the versa pro for $269 without the board discount and the Veo is about $330 or so

Thank you very much

im not sure about the veo being a wrist mount like the versa....??? does that matter to y ou

For the Versa 250 it can be purchased as a module and then I can buy the wrist band for it for about $20.

I just came back from the LDS and they wanted $400 for the Versa Pro, $350 for the Versa 250 plus the wrist band. I saw it on ScubaToys for $269 and another site for $250. So I guess if everyone thinks its a good computer then I will buy it.

Well, I had mine replaced twice under warranty. Both times it failed on a trip in the middle of a dive, giving me incorrect depth readings and later dying completely. Potentially dangerous failure there. Needless to say, I don't trust the third one and always carry a backup.

You can probably guess why I think it's being discontinued.

Well what I am going to do is use my analog spg and the computer on my wrist. That way I will have reduncy in case one or the other fails.
I will only be doing no decompression dives esp since I am a newbie and don't have the other training needed. Honestly I don't know if I even want to get into decompression dives.. I will figure that one out in time.

If you do decide to do deco dives, the Versa Pro is not what you want to buy. You'll end up replacing it.

It does handle rudimentary deco. That is, if you exceed NDL, it'll ***** & go into deco mode & time a stop or 2. Then once you surface it will lock you out for the rest of the day, no more dives.

I'm not doing deco dives & don't have any reason to any time soon, so this suits me. But if you think you may go that way, you must decide to either buy a comp that will continue to work for you, or be willing to buy another later.

It will not lock you out if you do your deco stops that it tells you to do. Now if it says you need 10 minutes of deco, but you just blast to the surface anyway... It will not be pleased... but I've run them into deco many times, then just followed the ceilings it gives you for staging up - no problem... I was diving again 2 hours later.
