I will be in Fla next Tues - Fri anybody up to do a shore dive at Vero Beach.

Let me know how the shore dive goes. I don't know of anyone that dives the shore in that area. Let me know if you see any sharks on the dive. I shark fish on that beach and have seen some big ones.

This time of year, visibility around Vero Beach is said to be bad. You might have better luck a little further south at Pepper Park down by Ft. Pierce.

Sylvester,

I took a Sunday drive down to the Vero Beach area today to check on the beach diving conditions. What I saw didn't look good. There were strong on-shore winds today that kicked up the surf and created what appeared to be a strong long-shore current. The visibility would appear to be zero.

As was mentioned in an earlier post, winter time does not offer the most favorable conditions for beach diving in the Vero Beach to Pepper Park area. The best conditions are during the Summer months.

But work has changed my schedule so now I wont be in until 28 Jan and I have decided to try and dive Blue Heron Bridge, a little further south. Hope fully it will be better this time of year.

Dove the Blue Heron Bridge yesterday (Sun.); water was 73*, a little cloudier than usual. Saw the usual - parrotfish, barracuda, spadefish,a bristlestar and a batfish. lots of others also. Just remember to check on high tide and enjoy.
If you need a buddy maybe we can work something out.

I used to dive Vero beach all the time. From 1/4 mile south of Sebastian inlet all the way to Ft. Pierce inlet (and beyond) you'll find broken spotty reefs and ledges in water from 10 to 30 ft, from 50 to 250 yards off the beach.

There are numerous types of fish, mostly yellowtail snapper, mangrove snapper, margates, big angels, and big sheepshead. Sometimes you'll see an occasional grouper, but don't get your hopes up on a legal sized one. There are a lot of lobster out there, too.

The trick is finding the right time to dive the spots. When there is waves from north swells of these winter-time frontal systems, the vis goes to crap. Wait a couple of days where the seas subside to virtually calm, and you'll find 5-10 vis quickly. The couple of days of calm rarely comes in the winter. During the summer you can see the reef from the beach, and the vis is great.

Many spots between Wabasso and Vero. I recommend spots north of Wabasso, particularly in the area between the mansion with the blue-tiled roof and the white picket fence of the horse farm. Some very close and accessible spots.

Hope this helps.
