So it most have been really bad if you don't want to return. But as you say the only way to known is to try it.

I guess the location was too obvious to be a great "undiscovered" shore dive.

No. I tried Aquasealing mine and testing it on that dive. It was a bit better, but still leaked. -Not much you can do with a zipper. Does he want it back? I'm going to try sealing mine one more time.
