VENICE — A diver died Saturday despite life-saving attempts by first responders and Sarasota Memorial Hospital-Venice.

According to a city news release, the Venice Marine Patrol received a call at about 9:43 a.m. from a diving charter captain that a diver, a 52-year-old man from Lutz, Florida, was in distress.
