I'm planning to hit VB this Sat. before Ivan makes its appearence in the gulf (I hope that is where it shows up and not on land). The ususual 9am or so at Alhambra. Thinking of doing one dive there and then maybe move up the beach a little and try a different spot.
Any takers?

The only trouble i see is gas, at least its pretty scarce here within a day or the 5-day forecast being show on TV passing within 100miles of Orlando. Not sure how it is down there, but just check you can get gas to get you down and home if you dont live close to that area!!

We would love to join you, but we might hit the springs - if any are open, if possible this weekend.

I'll be up for it if the vis is bearable. I'm trying to get word on that from Florida West Scuba in Venice. They were going to go check it out today. Haven't heard back from them yet. Their warning was that it was probably "liquid mud" still.

Well let us know. Don't need a mud bath right now.

I was out beach way today.. this is the first day it wasn't white capping coming into the beach. The water looked that beautiful emerald green of a very sand churned bottom.

Just read that the Keys are being evacuated. Tomorrow just might not be the best time to be on the highway. Will keep an eye out.
I drying up and shriveling away.

But you hid under the couch instead :(
What's that supposed to mean?

Florida West went out yesterday about 1/2 mile to a mile offshore and it was 5 ft or so viz on the bottom, but they said it was churned up nicely. They had a charter go out today. I'm trying to find out how they did. If it was only 5ft out at 30ft down, closer to shore is probably pretty bad still. I might go down tomorrow and take a look anyway.

I just got back from Siesta Key beach and the water is very calm - a beautiful evening. If anyone is up for checking out Venice tomorrow morning, just let me know. The weather forecast for Saturday morning is great - winds to a max of 7mph all day and sunny for the first half of the day. Vis is another story, but at least it'll be calm.
