In a recent discussion about what to do on Sun 1/11 afternoon, that wasnt at Venice between Dutchfin and i, he suggested that he might be there on sat 1/10 morning. Any other hardy sould available for that? My GF is busy, so her dislike of cold water wont affect me staying away this time!!

The tides are supposedly low at 8.42am and judging by the moon visible percentage that would take it to be a near (just past) a spring tide (really, really low, moon viz 94%). Not sure if that would impact the weekend of diving at all, conditions would be about the same on the sunday - all other things being equal (wind etc). The following weekend 1/17-18 would be nearer the neap tides and about high tide. I think that from what i have learned over the years of other water use that wind and tides can make a huge difference to viz, if there is a west wind blowing and rain too, i would think this weekend a washout.

Well anyway, anyone else planning on going that saturday??
I have another possible option with diveswithturtles just in case, but i dont know all the details yet. Still planning on something in the springs area this sunday afternoon.

I talked to ReefGuy last week and he reported nearly nothing in way of visibility. I don't know if conditions improved, but with the vis that poor, I'm looking elsewhere for dives.

Conditions were excellent yesterday. Flat calm and at least 3 ft of viz.

Well although the tide may be against us this weekend (was half way in when they dived 1/4) - low, the wind looks like it will move around to the east over the latter half of the week and weekend - so fingers crossed on that one!!

I dont know how else might like to come along on saturday, from the other thread it appears Dutchfin @8ish, i could be there at about that time and might even want a second dive around 10 if anyone else wants to come later - we find teeth and of course can see!!

Any other takers?

So visibility isnt that great at any tide then. I take it that it could make a difference on other beaches?? I guess the only difference a low tide would make is that you have to guess where the magic depth is to find the teeth - ie its shallower at low tide and deeper at high tide.

Does the wind truly make a difference on the gulf coast??

Visibility at Venice Beach ranges from zero to about 30 feet. It averages 2 - 6 feet. I see good and poor vis at high tide, low tide, incoming tide, outgoing tide. I really doesn't matter. Tides frequently affect visibility in or near channels. The best visibility in those areas is usually found at slack high tide.

Wind affects waves. Waves affect visibility as well as ease of diving.

I think I will definately try and make it on Saturday as well. Depends on how tired I am after work (I work 9 pm to 6 am) but I will definately shoot to be there. Only one point, the forcast is calling for the chance of rain, just to let you know.

Venice isn't looking to good for me this week-end. Need to stay close to home.
