Lee, how would you describe the diving in the islands around February...If we tried to organize a trip in early 2009, how is the usual visibility and would that time of year offer up an unique opportunities?

I just read in the Wall Street Journal late last week that Chavez is now threatening to expel another European manufacturing firm from the country...I guess he never bothered to study economic history and the impending disasters of capital isolationism.

We actually leave for Bonaire in three weeks, cannot wait to be back in your neck of the Caribbean!

Hi Sveta, August would be a good time for you to dive with us here on Margarita. High season hasnt really kicked in yet then, we would just have completed an IDC/IE course, and underwater visibility would be very good. If you want, give me an email at lee.enomisdivers@yahoo.com before you come out and we can recommend lodging facilities suited to meet your pocketbook here on the island. Arturo is right when he said that Los Roques is the best place to dive around Venezuela. But there is not much to do there except lay on the beach and dive, and it is expensive. Margarita has world class restaurants, malls, casinos, movie theatres, horse back riding, golf courses, etc., etc. if you want to do other things on your vacation besides diving. Hi EnronX, February can be hit or miss around Margarita. In 2006 viz was great in February, but this year because of the off shore storms and Atlantic upswellings we have been experiencing, there has been lots of plankton and other stuff in the ocean, limiting visibility (10 to 30 feet). Now it is getting better again with viz around 50 feet or so. For visibility, the best months to dive around here is from June to December (40 to 100 feet plus). Other than that, diving around Margarita doesnt offer too many changes. We always have lots of fish to see and the water is always nice and warm. However, one good thing about February is that it is low tourist season here and the island is not so crowded with tourists, there are more vacancies available at the hotels, and prices tend to be less in restaurants and stores. However, email me at any time if you want to organize a trip down here before you leave, and I can help you with info regarding hotels, airport pick up, other tourist attractions, etc. About the president here, he does tend to do things that historically has proven to be detremental, but I guess that he will have to learn that for himself. My philosophy is that as long as it does not negatively affect me or mine to the point that living on Margarita becomes stressful, I will just keep enjoying the very affordable, wonderful life here on Margarita. Hey Lee, thanks a lot for the infortmation and your help. I'm definitely going to email you before i leave because i, to my greatest shame, do not speak Spanish and since the day i started booking my trip, i experienced a lot of difficulties with locals due to their lack of English. It would be awesome to communicate with somebody in English and be understood.

It will be our pleasure Sveta, we are what you may call a "full service provider", and help our tourist divers with information on hotels or posada's, restaurants, things to see and do here on the island, airport pickup and transporation to your hotel, information or arrange other diving or non diving excursions, or whatever they want to know in order to make their stay here more pleasant and enjoyable. We carry Scubapro rental equipment (wetsuit, fins, BCD and regulator assembly's) for our divers. On dive days we pick you up at your hotel, take you to the marina and bring you back after the dive day is done.
