Mostly deflated innertubes and wood pallets.....

Three years ago I stayed at Beaches Veradero. Diving there is nothing spectacular. Mostly sandy bottom with patches of sea fan/rods and little fish. The DM brings out some bread to attract fish, for their picture guy to take pics of you.

For several days with winds, they closed down the beach and diving. I asked and was sent to downtown to a shop where they had a bus goind south. It took 2.5hr to get to Bay of Pigs for shore diving to a wall. It was very good, bright color long sponges with good hard coral growth at the wall.

Don't go to Veradero to dive. If you do, definitely spend one day going south to Bay of Pigs to dive.

I loved diving in Cuba, even though I was in the process of getting certified at that time and just did shore dives. There was lots of colourful coral of varying health and abundance, wall diving, lots of fish, lots of swimthroughs, warm water, great visibility...

The people who did the boat dives were thrilled with their dives.

I've heard the Bay of Pigs (Bahia de cochines) is awesome diving - yes, THAT Bay of Pigs of U.S. - Cuban History fame. Cayo Largo and Cayo Coco are beautiful and semi-secluded - incredibly beautiful to visit but not sure how the diving is there, though.

We found Cuba to be incredibly beautiful. We stayed in Varadero and visited Havana as well as Cayo Largo before there were any hotels on that island. We visited Playa Serenas on Cayo Largo, one of Conde Nast's Top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world - and were awed by it's pristine un-clearcut beauty. We found the people very warm, friendly and helpful as well. I would like to visit again sometime to dive a lot more.

You should do a google search on "cuba diving" and I'm sure you'll get specifics and helpful info. Have fun!

BTW, this is the Accidents and Incidents Forum - perhaps this thread should be moved to the Caribbean?

ok started tread in wrong area how do i move it ?????

They moved it for you. ;)

I'd have to be another to say don't go to Cuba, specifically Varadero, for a dive trip. Don't get me wrong, I loved Varadero for a cheap, awesome beach vacation. It has one of the nicer beaches around, fabulous turquoise water, and a wonderfully laid back, non-commercial environment (sure , there are lots of resorts, but it's not jam packed with Starbucks and McDonald's etc. is what I mean) But there is a lot of sand bottom, or dead reefs. (It's basically the complete opposite of Hawaii in every way! hehe)
If it's not too late, you may want to pick another location for your dive club trip!
