So, I've had this tank since 1989. It is getting harder to turn the air on and off (sticking).

I read somewhere on SB about needing to overhaul it once a year. Nothing has ever been done to mine, outside of hydro's and VIPs (both are due in August)

My dive shop tells me that it is $48 to overhaul and $52 for a new valve. I am mechanically inept so I can't do the overhaul myself.

What is your advice? I personally don't see a problem with replacing the valve. Is there a downside? Am I missing something?

Looking for local advice. Others welcome, though.

Thanks, Teamcasa. I guess the price my shop is quoting is in the ballpark for Hawaii. I'll compare shipping to taxes.
