"Colleagues, buddies and friends of Sven are invited to a memorial service to be held this Sunday November 11 at 10:30am. It will be held on the headland opposite Bare Island. Dress as you wish, umbellas are fine if raining.

Sven's wife, Pat, has asked that people make donations to the charities or organisations of their choice instead of flowers.

Following the service there is time for coffee and memories at the Boatshed Cafe, 1609 Anzac Parade, on Frenchmans Bay. Just around the corner from Bare Island.

Please RSVP via email/pm and I will pass it along.

I worked with a Sven Paepke in New Zealand in 1997. He was a senior technical person in the Deloittes ICS SAP practice. He was a very smart guy and a great guy to be around.
Can anyone confirm if this is the same Sven Paepke?
I have just returned from a trip to Australia and saw the article on page 27 of the Sunday Telegraph (11 Nov 2007) on the flight back to Canada where I live now. It sure looks like him in the photograph.
It's kind of unbelievable if it's really Sven and that I should just happen to read about it like that.

HI Lawrence and yes, this is the same Sven

his memorial was held on Sunday at Bare Island. i would say close to 100 people attended and people as far away as Dubai wished they could have attended - all said the same thing, a funny guy, very methodical and careful about what he did but with a cheeky streak.

i never knew that as a young man in east germany, he was kicked out of university because he refused to join the socialist party.... the little things you find out about peoople only when they are gone

his brother and mother flew over for the memorial and with his lovley wife Pat and my heart just broke at the pain this has caused

when the service was over we were all invited to throw a rose off bare island bridge....... in a way i suspect Sven was smiling - there were newbies in the water being pelted with roses, while some tech guys on twins were practising drills plus about another 20odd divers in the water also

thanks

Just wanted to remind everybody not to forget Sven and his passing during a dive at the Iron Knight. Today would have been his 46th birthday! Rest in peace, Sven!
