Hi All,

My wife and I are planning our family vacation for this year. Were looking for recomendations on a good vacation/dive spot for our family. I am OW certified, my wife is not although she is curious about snorkling and we have twin boys who are three years old. I work for an airline so travel costs are not so much of an issue. I'd like to be able to dive once in awhile, beaches for the boys and shopping for the wife. I think an all inclusive might be the trick? Thanks in advance.

Don - it's hard to judge without knowing more about your family preferences and budget. But I'll start the ball rolling by suggesting Cozumel or one of the resort centers on the Yucatan Peninsula. Cozumel will delight you as a diver and there's excellent snorkelling for the other family members. Shopping is also good because the cruise ships go in for shore trips, stimulating business. Many companies put together very good packages - but start by asking PADI travel or doing an internet search.

Thanks guys...I've dove CZM before with the guys and it was fantastic, but I hear the hurricane really ripped things up above and below water. Any particular resort you like in CZM?

Did the Hotel Cozumel about 18 months ago with my LDS and had a great time. It has a wonderful pool for your wife and kids - and a tunnel under the road that takes you to a 'sunset' restaurant, bar and snorkelling spot. The place also has surface-supplied 'helmet' dives (a sort of big helmet that rests on your shoulders while you walk around the bottom - carefully attended by safety staff - my wife loved it).

Try our side of the world! I would go to Palau stay at the PPR plenty of stuff for non divers and kids. Another option would be the Philippine Islands lots of cheap shopping. I would stay at Alantis Dive Resorts there are two to choose from. My family likes to go to both because we tend not to see any other Americans.

My wife, daughter and I are going to Curacao this summer. We get great reports from people regarding Curacao. We are staying at Breezes in Curacao which is an all-inclusive.

It includes 1 free shore dive per day and they provide all equipment if you do have or chose no to use your own gear.

In my case, I dive, my wife cannot and my daughter will be newly certified before we leave for vacation.

We feel that the all-inclusive makes the price predictable and gives all of us plenty to do.

The price for Breezes in Curacao was much less expensive than a lower rated all-inclusive on Aruba. The diving is also much better in Curacao than in Aruba.

I believe the cost was around $1700 for all three of us for a week (not including air fare). The price also includes including all food, drinks (including alcohol) and entertainment.
