Do you know what is involved in the tryouts or any additional info on tryouts?

Thanks for asking. On May 2, everyone will gather at the Aquarium to be briefed on all activities involved with the Dive Team and minimum participation requirements. Paperwork will be completed for those who want to join, and a tour of all facilities, including behind the scenes, will be conducted. You will need to bring with you your C-card and a copy of your last 5 dive logs. You must have completed at least 20 open water dives and be 18 or older to be on the team. You will also need to get CPR and first aid certified in a timely fashion after joining but before you are allowed to begin diving with the team.

On May 3, you will demonstrate some basic in-water skills, including regulator recovery, mask clearing and bouyancy control, at a local recreation center indoor pool. The time and location will be announced on May 2. You need to bring ALL of your own dive gear - reg, BC, mask, fins/boots, weights, full tank, hood, gloves, and minimum 3mm full wetsuit. Backboard training will also be conducted in-water. A written test be also be given, based on the Dive Team manual, which you will be given a copy of and can use during the test.

Contact the Aquarium (at the website stated in my first post) for more details and to apply for the Dive Team.

The in-water skills portion of try-outs will be conducted at the Bow Creek Recreation Center in Virginia Beach on May 3. Interested parties still need to attend the orientation session and application process on May 2 at the Aquarium's main building on General Booth Blvd.
