I am purchasing a Zeagle ZX/Flathead V1 regulator and I have been given the option of purchasing a Smart Com Console to replace the depth gauge on the console. I am brand new and this is my first purchase and really like the looks of a wrist computer but the deal is very good for the console. I don't want to spend the money for the upgrade and then in a few months regret not buying a hoseless wrist computer. Suggestions?

Great choice of reg. As for the console, I recommend getting an SPG and a wrist mounted either AI or non-AI computer.

I dive with an SPG and AI wrist mounted computer. I do not depend on the AI and doubt I would ever do so. I just happened to get it at a great price that I could not pass on.

My personal choice of computer is the Suunto Vytec. Some have found it hard to learn how to use, myself, I found the Uwatec Aladin Pro hard to use. Also, the Vytec will grow with you if you plan to get into longer dives that will involve deco and gas switching. Even though you should be using tables for that kind of diving, the computer is a handy tool to have.
