I just don't log dives
Hi

I have a friend who has been offered the uwatec smart Z dive computer and wants some feed back on what is a good price plus if the computer is worth considering. I have no clue since I use a cochran and really don't like the idea of the hoseless transmiter etc. But trying to keep an open mind. thoughts?
ps friend is just starting out so i have a feeling its more computer than he needs.

You are correct. Just glanced at the info and my mind saw a 2 instead of Z. But I am still interested on any feedback on this computer. Manual vs real life.

All of my computers are Uwatec . . the Aladin Pro Ultra and the Smart TEC are most like the Smart Z, but I don't have a Smart Z.

I am a die-hard fan of all of them, and have found my Ultras and TEC easy to operate, configure, and see. I've had nothing but good luck with them and good support from Uwatec.

I use a Smart 2 and have for years. It was the first dive computer I bought, so I have no comparative experience.

I am completely satisfied w/this product. Never had a mechanical problem. When I sent it in a few years ago for battery change they offered me my current, upgraded model for a small trade-up fee (don't remember the amount). Good service in my opinion.

Data is well displayed, easy to interpret during and after the dive. Manual could use some improvement, but do you know a manual for anything that isn't weak?

Happy to give it an unequivocal thumbs up.

I have used Uwatec computers proffesionally for over 10 years and rate them highly. I started with and Aladidn air X which I used for 8 years when it went back for it's battery change I was told I could up grade it to the Smart Z for £200 which I did and have no regrets. I find it easy to use and it has a large easy to read screen (importent when your getting older!). They do tend to loose the air signal when around camera strobes but quickly reconnect on thier own.

My Smart Z's battery just died after about two years. I think storing it in the padded bag when it was damp probably shortened the battery life, as it allowed bridging of the contacts. Other than that I was completely happy with it. My new computer is the Aladin Tec 2G.
