I am guessing battery is still good. What's the date of manufacture?

The battery is still good. It looks like Dec 2005 according to a label on the box. My understanding is that the battery life in these units is dependant on the number of dives - this one has 2 dives.

The battery life is also dependent on age as the battery degrades over time and the output falls to the point that the timer no longer functions. The manufacturer reports these batteries to have a duration of service of 10 years. However, people have been getting longer out of them if they are used less of course.

Yes, I am sure age is a factor - here is what the manufacturer provides with regards to the battery:

Life of battery calculated assuming an average dive time of
* 45 minutes
* and a surface interval of 24 hours per dive.
With 50 dives/year: about 12 years
With 100 dives/year: about 11 years
With 200 dives/year: about 9 years
With 350 dives/year: about 8 years

As mentioned previously - this unit has 2 dives on it.
