Ok,

I am now the proud owner of this Aladin Sport Plus. I've read some horror stories on Uwatec and batteries and costling like 150 to get serviced. I called my local dive shop to see if they can service it. He said yes $10 would get me a new battery. I'm not certain the person answering the question had the most experience so i'm doubting his answer.

So is anyone familiar with this model and if a local dive shop can service it or will it have to be sent to Scubapro and cost me big money?

It's wet because thats the only way I could get it to turn on.

Did you ever get your answer? I just came across a never used Sport Plus which still has a battery reading of 58%. I was just wondering. I really do not plan on using this computer but would like to know more about it. I might sale it in the near future after I learn a little more about it. THanks!

It should have 4 contacts, 3 in a row across the top and 1 on the bottom (although I don't see the bottom contact in your picture). If you moisten two fingers and simultaneously touch the lower one and the right-most contact on the top, it should turn on.

By the way, CCTX50, some Uwatecs are notorious for going from, say, 58% battery capacity to zero in a quantum leap. I have no experience with this particular model though.

yep as stated above you got to wet those fingers to turn it on.

I also mistakenly opened up the back of it while cleaning it. And in the process found out that in order to get a new battery or service it has to be sent via a dealer to the mfg and that will cost you about $140 min.

Then I also learned that if you buy mineral oil and submerge it upside in mineral oil you can get the back on again yourself.

Thus if you were reasonably handy you could change the battery yourself.

My advice sell it now!

Mine has 98% battery and I guess I'll use it until it's dead.

98% is basically a new battery and you should get 5 or more years of use from it before it dies. They are a nice computer and easy to read, I actually bit the bullet and paid to have the battery replaced in my Aladin Nitrox Pro because I like the computer. I looked into changing the battery myself but it looks like a real hassle and a messy job at that. The battery meter is not a very reliable indicator of battery capacity left, I am aware of a few that went from over 50% to "Error" which is the signal that the battery has to be replaced. Mine was reading 54% before it went.

When I bought my wrist Sport Plus in 2001, it came with a batteries for life card from Uwatec. I have had to replace the 2 times since. I go to my nearest dive shop and they will send it to the manufacturer. The only thing that I get charged is the shipping cost. I would advise anyone to get the costs upfront from your dive shop prior to sending; shop around, you may find a better service price.

Does anyone have any idea what the vaule of a Uwatec Adadin Sport Plus with only 10 or so dives on it, with NO scratches. (It is in the original box with all paperwork and still has the protective plastic on the screen. Battery is at 54%... Like I said, it looks BRAND NEW!
