Hi my name is Wilson, I'm currently in Thailand for three months sudying for my IDC and instructor exam. I have an Aladin Pro dive computer and a memomouse storage device that has a serial cable connection. I purchased a new laptop which does not have a serial port. Ewatec recomended certain serial to USB convertors, and I purchased the Belkin converter. While in the UK I downloaded several dives without any problem, but having arrived in Thailand , with my Laptop, I am experiencing difficulties. Firstly connecting the dive computer to the memomouse, on wetting my fingers and using the external contacts on the Aladin, it will change from mode to mode or function without problem and the dives are transferred to the memomouse ok.
The problem arises when I plug in the serial convertor. What happens then is that the Aladin will not respond to touching the contacts, and if it does it is very slow as if being inhibited by the serial to USB convertor. The odd thing is that although I have this problem over 90% of the time, on occasion the transfer of my dives to the logbook on my laptop works. I have tried a different USB convertor in the form of just a cable which I purchased out here in Thailand. But with this I get the error message 'memomouse not found'. Other error messages I get when using the Belkin serial to USB convertor when the Aladin is slow to go into logbook mode is that 'there is no connection between the dive computor and the memomouse', which cannot be having just successfully transferred the dives from the Aladin to it.
can anyone offer any help on this
