I would ditto the criticism about the temp. not being displayed on screen and using the "memo mouse" at first takes a little getting used to. You may also need to purchase an adapter for your P.C. for the "memo mouse" to download information (because the mouse does not have a USB plug). Other than that, I would give the Air Z Nitrox 2 thumbs up!

I have just returned my Air Z to the shop, as the unit went dead. Mind you, it does have at least 20 dives on it and is 6 months old... VFM? Mmmm?? I am know paying £100.00 to upgrade it to the Nitrox model.

20 dives and 6 months old??? I think you got a lemon...
My nitek had 130+ dives and two years on it when I sold it, and it still had 50% battery life left according to the tester at the local DR dealer who checked it.
I would be suprised if uwatec didn't just give you a whole new computer to replace a probable defective unit. If it dies after six months and 20 dives there must be something wrong in the internals.

I have an Air Z Nitrox, really no complaints.....just worries that when I go into a wreck that I would scratch the computer (arm mounted). My LDS had the dive slate mount and I just clip it to a D-ring with a retractor and it works great!

I have used the Air Z Nitrox for about 6 years now; I had the original model and now have the new model after the battery died in the original. The battery lasted for about 5 years (about 250 dives) I paid £110.00 for a battery replacement, which actually means you get a new computer.

I’ve always been pleased with the Air Z Nitrox and have every confidence in it. It is easy to read and the accent rate as a percentage is extremely easy to read, I also dive with a suunto Stinger but prefer to use the Aladin as my primary computer. The Suunto computers are definitely more conservative especially after a short surface interval.

I will say you certainly need the memo mouse. The computer holds on two hours of dive profiles even though it stores nineteen dives in its memory, you also need the memo mouse to communicate from the PC to the Air Z to enable you to change the settings, I.E. turn the audible buzzer on and off, adjust the breathing rate alarm (this set at the manufacturers setting is quite annoying you really do have to turn this down).

The memo mouse has a serial connection instead of a USB, but this is not really a problem as most PC’s still have at least one serial connection.

If you are considering getting the Aladin now you may consider the new Smart Tec coming out soon, this can use three nitrox mixes 21% - 100% with three transmitters.
100 hours of dive profile storage. The smart tec uses inferred communication so there’s no need for a memo mouse.

The *Real* question that begs to be asked here, is: WTF are people who use retractors and have so little control that they worry about scratching a wrist mount device, doing IN a wreck in the first place!

One issue with the Air Z that's not been stated yet, and may not be applicable except to a small number of divers, is that if you scooter ... the tank data display blanks out, but comes back when you let off the trigger for a minute or so. It's still annoying, but I'm used to it and have an SPG as backup anyway. Other than that, I'm quite happy with it.

I purchased an Uwatec smartcom in 2002, which promptly had a recall. It took 6-8 weeks to get back. Now I use Delta-P's VR-3, & have not had a problem since.
