I recently bought my first computer, a used Uwatec Aladin Air Z Nitrox. I still have not had a chance to dive with it. I am wondering what other people think of this computer? Also I own a Apple Computer and I'm wanting to know if the memo mouse will work with the Apple or is it only PC computers?

Not sure, may want to check w/ ScubaPro/Uwatec. The Smart series work with macs, but the model you have predates the Smart series.

I think the Memo Mouse has a serial connection. I don't think Macs ever had serial connections. My answer is most likely not. J-Trak, which is the most recent software from Uwatec for the Mac doesn't support the older computers either.

I have one. I've not used any software for downloading. (I have the Uwatec Aladin Nitrox X, a generation before yours. Mine has two windows, the main one and a secondary on the bottom below the hinge point.) I found it be very easy to use for diving. And I liked it quite well. The only part that didn't thrill me was that I had to take it off to remove my wetsuit while on dive trips. And then I'd have to take it back to my hotel (dive op was storing and rinsing gear).

I've since moved to a Stinger so I can wear it as a watch once I'm done diving. It wasn't necessary, but I like to know what time it is. :) (Anyone want to buy an air integrated Uwatec Aladin Nitrox X with transmitter?)

Macs definitely had serial connections at one point, but it's been a LONG time since they dumped that antiquated connection option. Inexpensive USB-to-serial conversion dongles have been used in the rare instances serial connections were truly needed.

But without software support, it's a moot point. Sounds like the OP will need a newer computer if he wants to use it with his Mac.

Although it is pretty cool that it can be done at all, it sort of defeats the purpose of a Mac. I just installed Windoze on my 20" Intel iMac to run GAP, D-Planner and Smart Trak. When I plan dives or update my logbook I boot to Windoze, otherwise it is OSX all the time. Smart Trak for windoze is compatible with the older computers and I was able to retain my divelog from 1995 when my Aladin Pro used a DOS based program to download the dives. J-Trak for the Mac won't take info from anything that doesn't have the iRdA transfer on it. It works well with my Smart Pro and my Aladin TEC.

So... you've never heard of Parallels? No need to reboot just to run one windows program.

System requirements are spelled out pretty clearly for all of the computers (and software) in question, so complaining about needing Windows for those functions is kind of like complaining that it's sunny at high noon.

I have an Aladin AirZ O2. Tried several things to connect it to the Mac (pre-intels). There is a German guy who developed an interface and some software but unless you are an electronic freak building your own stuff soldering this together.....
I ran VPC 7 and data trak with a seriell to USB converter but gave up on it.

As to the computer: I love it. The downside I have found so far ist that you cannot run them in gauge mode and/or switch gases. And since the computer locks when you violate it it's no good for deco with two gases.

I used Boot Camp, although a reboot is required, it is free and worked without a hitch. I am not complaining about needing windows, I much prefer the Mac but the windows programs I listed are better options than their Mac counterparts. There is no Mac version of GAP or Decoplanner.

I have the Air Z Nitrox and I am happy beside;
I can't change the basic settings without Memo Mouse which I don't have
On dives from the beach, when I dive longer distances on my back the waves swap over me and make random contacts and it jumps arround in the menues and pips all the time. Thats a bit dangerous if it one time changes the Nitrox mix and you dive with wrong settings.
