Can someone give me some information on uwatec aladin air console?

Does anyone own one? With the compass or without?

Looking for a console but all the threads in equipment here prefer wrist computers.

What's the difference, besides the wrist part, and which direction should i go. Easy diving, no nitrox. And do I need a compass?

What do you wrist computer folks use for compass? Or do you need one?

Sorry, probably stupid questions but I don't have a clue, looking to purchase our gear here shortly and trying to figure what we need.

I don't own an Aladin Air, but I have dove one and am familiar with the computer. I don't really like it. It is outdated (short logbook, not all backlit, limited features). Uwatec has stopped producing it, and Scubapro closed them out this summer. If you are buying from an authorized dealer, keep in mind that he bought it CHEAP, and should be selling it cheap. They are no longer being shipped.

I use a console air integrated computer (the Suunto Cobra) and really like it. Hoseless is cool, but I hate having stuff on my wrists and a retractor seems to be a little impractical. The new Uwatec Air integrated computer, which will ship in March or April, will be really cool. It is called the smart com, and from the specs it looks to be very advanced (more memory than the cobra).

I would recomend the cobra because of it's features and expandablity. You can add a compass to it if you want. I believe all versions of the Aladin Air came with a compass, but you had the choice of digital or analog (I never use my compass for anything other than training, so I bought a retractable compass to clip off on the bc). The cobra has a very clear display while diving. The only downside I see is that it may be a little complex for once a year divers or people who are bad with electronics. I have no problem with it, and am very happy with the purchase.

I have an Aladin Nitrox Pro Air Integtrated

This is wrist mounted and I use another wrist mounted compass on the other wrist or both on one when diving at night.

I chose Nitrox as I perceive most diving will go this way and after doing a nitrox course the computer has proven invaluable! I would not buy a air computer!!

I chose air integrated as no hoses to get tangled and it is easy to look at your wrist than find the console!!! Best decision I have made!!

I can connect the computer to a PC and ownload info and change settings - quite easily!

Best peice of kit I have bought!! But read about each models features and ask yourself - can I read and understand the display (Especially underwater!!!)

Also, talk to other divers before making a decision! I was diving in Scapa Flow in 2000 and there was a guy who had a new Suunto computer and he couldn't operate it without the manual - not the best when at 35m!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the info on the aladin air, but i just went basic with my purchase of the Mares Mission 3, just didn't think i need the computer yet. I;ll dive with my watch and my tables. I do have the Citizens HyperAqualand so i can use that for some dive profiles, otherwise since im new ill stick with the tables.

thanks for the info,

The Nitrox Pro I have is my 4th computer I think. Anyway, easy or hard I agree with the thread and all dives will be Nitrox before long, no reson to buy a machine not as capable as you...

Uwatec/Scubapro has a new integrated computer due out in the spring, and I have one on order, Smart Comm or something like that.

Anyway I have several hundred dives on my Aladin and I have never had any complaints. I have never violated it ot locked it out but I have dept tested it a bit. i also love the computer log it makes. As for a small memory, the memo mouse is needed to download to a PC and it alone will keep sixty or so hours of dive profiles, and I don't usually do more than that on a trip before I download  .

Anyway all the Aladins are good machines, in my experience.

I have an Aladin air with True Track digital compass. I personally like air integrated computers as your dive is being constantly monitered. It lets me make the most of my time. One of the best things it does is calculate your air consumption and predict the remaining air time at the current depth, also the calculation for RBT includes condideration of tank pressure and your rate of air consumption. If you are overbreathing you get an audible alarm so you can correct that. There is an alarm to tell you when you have bottom time of less than 3 minutes. Also if you have pushed the dive to it's limit then it tells you to extend your surface interval. It has an abundance of warning messages and tells you how to correct it.It is very easy to use.It tells you a no fly time, desaturation time, you can altitude dive with it.If you also get the memo mouse and datatrack pack you can download your dives onto your PC, where you can look at your dive profile and find out even more about your dive.
The digital compass is also relatively easy to use but is very sensitive. You can programme courses into it.

I regularly dive to 40-45m and have used it for the last two years and as you've probably guessed I think the world of it. My model doesn't have a nitrox mode but I know they do a model that does.If you want any more info let me know.Hope this has helped
