Dear List,

There is an idea to organize enthusiasts of underwater imaging (in
the Philippines) into a non-profit organization (e.g. Philippine
Society of Underwater Photographers). As yet, it remains a
concept. It intends to promote the following:

1. Sharing and exchange of information regarding:
•Dive and imaging equipment selection, sourcing, etc.
•Imaging techniques and new technologies
•Diving technique and etiquette for underwater photographers
•Photographic/dive locations

2. Practical training for underwater photographers and those
interested in underwater photography

3. Showcasing of work/images created by members (e.g. during regular
meetings, within the organization's website, exhibits, etc.

4. Constructive critique of work/images by members

5. Advocacy on issues affecting underwater photographers

6. Others (as may evolve during this conceptual stage)

I would like to know if the concept is something worth pursuing,
e.g. if there is enough local interest. If you are interested in
one way or the other, please respond to this post (or email
nonoytan@yahoo.com).

Please feel free to forward this message to other photographers,
divers, or groups, so that more responses can be generated during
the next 3 months.

since it's from diversions isnt' this going to swell up into an ugly political free-for-all reminiscent of "why do i want to take DIR-F" threads?

but if it's not i'm ok with it... especially if caloy joins, he's my hero (and dennis)

I am unaware of any perception regarding Diversions. Anyway, I believe that there is no room for politics and turfing in uw photography.

don't ask, I'll tell you when you get back. But stories about ships ripping thru corals in tubbataha is a taboo subject in that yahoo group.
