Has anyone here done an UW archeology course? If so what ws it like? What was the course content etc etc?

I think ECU, Eastern Carolina University in Greenville NC has a program. I also thin this is where some of the divers on the QAR (Queen Ann's Revenge) are coming from.

I've participated in several UW aerheology cources in Denmark. I was even surpossed to have given a lecture on the last one. howerver, it was cancled (And nobody even knew it was me!). I don't know if that information is doing you any good. I can see you havn't entered a location.

Keep up that good interest!

I've taken two Underwater Archaeology classes. They were very helpful.

The first class was an excellent overview and skills development class. Beyond the class work, we learned how to layout datum's, measure a site, develop site drawings, and use air bags and air lift. I received a NAUI Specialty card from this class.

The second class was put on by The Southwest Underwater Archaeology Society. It was much more specific to artifact handling and zero viz dive procedures. Very good class geared toward the type of diving this organization performs. This is an orientation course required to participate in their activities.

I saw a great program on Discovery Channel this weekend about the QAR and the wreck site excavation. These sorts of programs would definitely give you the bug for underwater archeology. What can I say, I've got LOTS of bugs.

ECU in Greenville has an underwater archeology program, but the diver training there is terrible. I wouldn't expect much from the program.

LVX:
I just wanted to let everyone know I will be teaching an underwater archaeology workshop Memorial weekend at the Aquarena Springs Center in San Marcos, Texas.

Do we each get an arrowhead? I want an arrowhead from the "Oldest continuously used human site in the United States." What a mouthful. Did I get that right?

By the way are there any active archaeological programs in Spring Lake? It looks like nothing has been done for quite a while, 'cept keep the area clear of vegetation.
