I will be in Utila at Laguna beach resort 1/26 to 2/2 what are my chances of seeing a whale shark? Are there any other sharks to be seen there? Are there any critters to beware of? Thanks!:coffee:

Pookie-

Not the whale shark season, but you can see them year round. Not that I have... :shakehead: LBR has one of the best whale shark captains on the island, so if they are there, you might get lucky. Otherwise shark sighting are rare. I have seen 2 nurse and 1 hammerhead (off in the blue) in the 6 times I've been there. As elsewhere, overfishing is taking its toll on Utila too. Just some simple conservation techniques would work wonders.... but I digress...

That said, Utila is a wonderful place to dive... with a magnifying glass. Breakout your macro lens and spend an hour on a 3 square meter piece of reef and watch the world come to life. Tons of tiny sea creatures all worth watching. Ranked recently as one of the top macro sites in the carribbean. All depends on what you are searching for.

Utila is great, have fun!

Yes, the divemasters! ;)

Look, if you see a Shark or a Whale Shark, that would be great. But really- spend your time in the Bay islands by carefuly following your DM as he shows you the cool little stuff.

I'll trade you one Pipefish every dive for one Whale Shark in a week.

There's more out there than you might imagine. Follow a smart DM.

Beware the critters know as sand fleas. Bring DEET.

:blinking:Thank you all for your responses!
