Traveling to Utila April 18th through the 25th. Anyone what to grab a beer or suggest a place to hang out. Staying at Laguna Beach

Um...the bar at Laguna Beach.

Anyplace else is going to require a 5min boat ride into town as your resort is on the other side of the lagoon inlet channel. You can see the channel at the top of the image in the header of this page: http://www.utila.com/the-resort Town would be another 4-5mins. to the east by boat from there (going towards the top of the photo)

A short 5 minute boat ride will take you to the settlement of Utila. Your drop off and pickup times can be arranged with the resort management. There is no fee for this service during daylight hours. Night trips into town can be arranged with advanced notice and a nominal charge.

Here's a thread that describes some dining options in town: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/bay-islands/269728-utila-restaurant-recommendations.html - maybe most of them, it's a pretty small place. Some bars are listed also.

Bring lots of Deet, the "lagoon" is all shallow mangroves behind LB and the Sand Flies are killer. We're just back from a week at Deep Blue Utila, the resort next to LB. They're the worst just before sunset so if you dive in the afternoon don't forget to re-apply. I used the Deep Woods Off 25% except one day when I regrettably forgot. We saw/snorkeled with six different whalesharks on two different days.

You can always hitch a ride into town with the dive staff and hang out at Tranquila for drinks. The resort shouldn't have a problem picking you back up from the landing if you set up a time before you head out. But the easiest way, like Steve mentioned, is just to stay at LBR.

We just got back from our second trip to LBR last night and had a great time again. The bar at the resort is nice enough, but both times we have been there, everybody headed off to bed at about 8:30 at night... literally.

We went into town several times at night, and be aware that after being dropped at the landing, you will have about a 30 minute walk into town. Coming back, it's a very dark, isolated stretch of roadway. Take a flashlight as there is the odd scooter or ATV comes along.

There are lots of fun bars in town... Tranguilla (co-owned by dive-boss Angi's b/f), Coco Loco, Bundu etc. Just follow the music!

Have a great time. We didn't get whale sharks this time, but we snorkelled with dolphins everyday for up to 40 minutes during our surface intervals.

We have never especially worried about our safety making this walk, and "everyone" assured us it's safe there...
