If it helps for confirmation, I own property on Utila and just spoke with my property manager who confirmed the story.

fair enough. I just find it strange that even today, when you enter HONDUTEL into google news search, the only mention (of what one would normally consider quite a newsworthy story) is regarding the companies expantion forcasts for 2007.

If anyone is looking for a business opportunity, there is a fortune to be made in shipping Hughesnet systems to Honduras. Right now, the street price for them is about $1900. The retail price here is about $700.

Itsjustme i love your place in the sun blog! Looks like things are coming along nicely!! Have you been on site for all the work? My family had considered building a place in BVI, but decided that unless one of us could be on site for the entire construction period it would be too hard to ensure the work was completed to standard. Id imagine you are facing the same issues on Utila!

Thanks for looking. I just returned from Utila after being there for about 18 days, so I have alot to update and will try and get to that in the next couple of days.

We actually haven't been there for any of the ongoing construction until this last trip (we bought the property last year). We have a property manager down there who is super, an ex-pat (but who has been on island for 15 years) and I trust him and his crew implicitly. He is probably more picky about things than I would be. We also have a fulltime caretaker/watchman on the property. Wait until you see the new dock. Its unbelieveable (which is a hard term to use for a dock).

But you are right that, in the absence of finding the right person to oversee the job, you have to be there. Hope that helps.

Hi Guys,

The gang from Paradise Computers have been hard at work & Utila is slowly rejoining cyberspace.

If you haven't heard from friends or family yet, have patience. Even though we here at Utila Lodge got back up & running this morning, we're still in the process of moving our webpage & the e-mail account links to an alternate server. Others are doing the same, so it may still be a couple days before everyones communication is back to normal.

Lesson Learned:
The big machine on top of the filing cabinet, the one we kept moving around cause it was in the way, came in REAL handy this week. I think they called it a fax machine.... Who knew?

Scuba-Jay:
Zen you are in Tampa? Im in St. Pete!!

Well I'm back in Tampa now.....*smile* for a bit.......ahhh then you're rather close...
I did bring my dive gear home w/ me this time....funny how since my certification I've done all my diving in Utila....LOL

Finally, back online today and missing the 'banter' of Scubaboard, we got our Hughes Net dish operational though occassional glitches.

If anyone has messages to relay I'd be more than happy to help out.

Warm regards,
Andy
