One of my co-workers father was on the USS Hoist in the mid ‘60s. I think this is a great picture of his dad and I asked if I could share it with you all too!

When I look at this, I remind myself not to complain about lugging equipment around!!

Just an added historical note: This is the ship that recovered the H-Bomb off of the coast of Spain in '66.

looks like something straight out of an old movie. Nice pic.

They were dry"to an extent". First, you would sweat your tail off and that moisture would accumulate. Second, the material was impervious to water but any tear, scrape, etc would "weep". This looks like a 50's, 60's Desco full dress. FYI - shoes = 20lbs each, helmet = 54 lbs, suit -38 lbs, weight belt usually around 80 lbs for a 180 lb man.

What a conincidence. I've been reading about all sorts of underwater pursuits by the Navy during the cold war in the book, Blind Man's Bluff .

These are some pretty cool stories, thanks for makeing it even better with this pic!

Nice book, I have a couple signed copies. I spent the late 70s -80s on the Seawolf and Parche. The book just scrapes the top of the stories.

Although I dont tend to commment on the books details too much I can say the "worlds greatest divers" are very humble people.

Oh Ya, My jar of " beach sand " is sitting on my desk next to me right now :)

I love that pic, back when men were men and sheep were scared.

In the 60's? was that when Carl Brasher was around?

A neat note I visited DIT in Seattle a while ago and the had a picture of Rob Dinero and Cuban Gooding Jr in full dive dress, that would of been a good day to visit the school

Sheep were scared? What the heck does that mean?

Given history..I dont think there is much left that sheep should be scared of...farmer.
