If you are going to the Tech route, don't buy anything until you have picked your instructor and discussed what equipment he requires and are acceptable for technical training. All technical diving agencies have very strict requirements for equipment used in their courses.
I think that’s some great advice right there! Thank you all for the support and guidance. I’m still thinking about a back plate for the Ranger, maybe trying doubles, but will certainly expect a change for any tech diving adventures!
 
Whether you go with a BP/W or a BC....... I personally like having the option of ditchable weight. But that's just me!

Given some of the discussion regarding ‘down currents’ and such, I’m leaning that way myself. I’m thinking that doing a little research on your dive site, and dressing for the occasion, is probably a good way to go.
