Has anyone ever taken and used their Canon plastic housing below 40m regularly/successfully? Yes, I know Canon clearly states a 40m limit but I have had no problems with my old Sony MPK-THA housing below 40m... I plan to dive regularly in the 40-50m range during an upcoming trip and am wondering whether it would be possible to use my camera or whether I should just leave it top side.

I use have a Canon PowerShot SD1000 (aka Ixy/Ixus 1000) + WP-DC7 housing.

Just returned from my trip. The WP-DC7 housing worked find below 40m; in fact, I took it down past 50m.

The attached pic (my buddy Jim looking at one of the guns on HMS Repulse) was taken at around 47msw.

Good to know!

Thanks

Took mine to 55 meters!

Not on purpose actually. We did a dive to 56 meters last week in Croatia and I carried my camera with me hoping to get a few pictures of some large grouper. Wasn't till we surfaced that I thought about the depth rating of the case. I have the A610 and the Dc90 housing. No leaks!!!

Hehe, probably won't try that again though.

I've got a near-cousin of that housing for my SD750 - I'm pretty certain our cameras would work in each other's housings. Mine worked fine recently at just over 40m. If you're very concerned about the camera, you could always do a dive with an empty housing (or one filled with paper to make finding evidence of small leaks easier) before taking your camera to that depth. Obviously, you'd miss any opportunity to take photos on that dive, but you could do future dives knowing what the housing will tolerate.
