A new Question "thread type" is available for starting a new thread in most of ScubaBoard's forums.

Is the Question Flag Required?

QuestionPrefixFlag.png
No., but is highly recommended. The Question flag not only visually alerts readers to your thread, it is the selection criteria used to include it in the Question Threads forum.

The new posted thread in the example above looks like any other, at this point:

Replies to a Question thread type display a new column. The member that Replies cannot "up or downvote" their own answer.

In this mocked-up thread, Neptune thinks this answer is the "solution" he was looking for He clicks the checkmark icon to let other readers know is is satisfied with the answer.

The Reply that the OP chooses as the best "Solution" will display at the top of the list of replies by default. Note that readers will have to click the "View full post" button to see the entire post. It also automatically sorts it to the top of the replies in that thread. All other Replies (usually answers) can be sorted by date or in order of the highest upvote count.

Can the Solution selection be changed?

Yes, The OP can change their mind as often as they feel it is justified. They will see a message like this when they click the Solution checkmark on a different Reply. In very rare cases, or when the OP does not make a selection, a ScubaBoard staff member may designate a "Solution".

Who can up or downvote Replies?

Any logged-in ScubaBoard member. They can also change their vote at any time. The OP is not the only person that can learn from the thread.

Why don't all forums have the Question thread type?

It would be inappropriate in some forums, Passings for example. Please request that the option be be added if you think the forum should have the option.

Please Vote Responsibly

Please consider that your up or downvote to a Reply is intended to help all ScubaBoard's readers learn — the OP, members, and guests. In particular, consider pushing a Reply's vote-count into negative territory very carefully. Members are trying to help and shouldn't be embarrassed or punished for offering a sincere answer, unless it is obviously being sarcastic or malicious.
