Using the 14-54mm lens for macro

Maybe not for your DSLR system but that isn't true for all SLRs. Shame you can't use Sigma's very nice 17-70mm macro! It's a fabulously versatile lens.

Well, when Sigma tacks on the term MACRO to the lense, it is not really a macro lens.

I am not sure about the 17-70, but I was looking at the 18-50 MACRO, and it has LESS magnification than the Oly 14-54 zoom.

So, in this case, Oly beats Sigma for magnification when comparing to the 18-50.

TRUTH IN ADVERTISING would be nice.

Well it offers .5x magnification on the tele end I think.
Granted these photos were taken on land, but i've seen some great closeups underwater it.

Alex Mustard has an excellent article about it in issue 36 of Underwater photography magazine...
 
I tried the 14-54 behind a 6-inch flatport, with ok results. I'll post some pics soon. Thing to keep in mind is that you can only use the range between 35 and 54mm, everything below that (more toward wide angle) results in vignetting.
