Is there anything wrong with using #18 braided line on a spool? My spool came with 50' and i am wanting to put some more on it. better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have right. but Home depot only had #18 braided.

safety/gap and bag use.

I'll use #18 in open water for laying a low-viz course or doing a search. I don't use it in caves, wrecks, or with lift bags.
Here's one source for heavier duty braided line.

DSS sells 100 feet of #24 for I believe $3.50. I just ordered a new spool with 75' that should be here this week.

Personally, I'd stick with #24. Its easier to feel, see, and manipulate underwater. You might want to invest in another spool if your situation requires it.

There are many river caves that have #18 that is over 20 years old. Viz is poor in river caves, but I can see this line just fine. #18 is probably okay for personnal use such as a gap real. Personally when I do big cave I carry a Jasper reel for lost line etc versus a spool since it has so much line, plus my stainless steel double end clip collection is getting big with all the clips I find on cave floors with them falling off of spools :)
