Hey members of scuba board. Just recently have found out about these forums by doing some google browsing on random dive topics. It had been popping up for a while so i decided to take the plunge :D. Anyhow got a couple questions to the more "skilled" divers amongst the community.

Firstly ill give you a little rundown. I am from Colorado and was certified in Colorado eh about 5 years ago or so. About 3 years ago we decided to move to florida, where there is more water than I know what to do with. I've been on 1 dive since i've been here. Mainly do to that it takes a charter boat, and I have to go about renting gear, as at the time I only owned the starter gear, mask, snokel, fins, and a wetsuit. Well until recently I hadn't done much with any diving. I was invited to an event by a friend who is a dive master. We got to talking at the event and he kind of elaborated on how fun he has diving. Well needless to say it the "bug" hit me. I was hooked once again.

My wife who was with me at the time expressed interest as well. Time for a shopping spree? I think so :D. Get to go shopping for Man stuff! lol. Anyhow, I ended up gearing my wife out with all new gear. Basic gear such as a mares bcd, mask, snokel, fins, and a wetsuit. By this time I have started thinking I need a BCD. Well as this occured, my friend the dive master said hey I have some BCD's for sale that I used to teach in that Ill sell you. I thought what the hell why not. When I arrived he had a very well maintained Seaquest Latitude the non XLT version so the older version. And the only reason I know this is because ive done research. But the vest was in good condition. It holds air pefectly. He gladly removes all relief valve's to show the rubber seals are in tact and in good condition. As well as removes the valve from the LP inflator to show seals are in good working order. Everything with the BCD is in working order. My question comes down to this. Was the BCD worth $300.00 in this condition? I tried to bargain him down to about $250.00 and he still sold me on $300.00 with a custom made, actual pretty nice stainless steel 3 pronged spear for hunting Lion Fish. Being that I am somewhat new, ok actually really new, did I just take it in the arse with this deal? I am a little unsure on the used BCD market.

Any help or advise would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

It's done now, what's the point in worrying about it? You have a decent BCD at a decent price and you got a lion-fish tamer too... be happy, go dive. If it doesn't work for you, sell it and find something that does.

You may have overpaid a bit, especially buying from a friend, but no harm no foul. Just don't buy from him again...

FJ,

This is very true. I just had thought about it a few nights and have debated in my head if it was the right decision or not. I guess im just kind of beating myself up over it. But like you said. Not much I can do about it now. The friend is more of an acquaintance at the moment. But again I just need to dive and have some fun I suppose. I guess moreover I just didn't want to hear the community saying it was a horrible BCD or anything. As I know people have far more experience with this stuff than I do. Thanks for the quick response. Anyone else have an opinion?

Buyer's remorse is a curious thing.

I really don't think I've seen a modern BC that I would define as "horrible". I've bought a few from the 80s and early 90s that I don't like very much but for the most part, if it helps you get out there and dive, it's a good purchase.
