Getting back into diving with my family. Getting another set up so I can use with my son and/or wife when diving, which also means upgrading my equipment- it's 19yrs old.

Reading up on the US divers regulators and other regulators. From what I am reading, US diver regulators are ones to keep- as they can still be serviced vs. other models that may not have parts available.

I need to drop my regulator off for service-it's a US divers Pro-diver and US octopus. Should there be no issues with getting it serviced or is the shop going to look at me funny saying not worth the effort?

Always liked my regulator when I purchased it new. So want to keep it if it. The 1st stage shows some wear and tear, but the second stage looks really good.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The only slight downside to the "flying saucer" is the 1/2" LP ports.
Performance wise it's pretty much another Conshelf....it'll be good for another 20 years.
Just check the yellow 2nd stage case for cracks where the hose connects....known problem.

The shop is going to look at you funny and say it's not worth the effort. They will follow THAT up with showing you a $500 reg set that is "much better". You will probably be hard pressed to tell a difference just by breathing on them. Good luck!

1/2" ports can be adapted. On my scubapro mk5 it's the HP port that needs it though, not the LP.

so long as the parts are available there's no reason not to service & enjoy diving it.

so the maintenance parts are nothing out of the ordinary.

Now should I crack a housing or something, then I'd have some issues....

The main service parts are exactly the same as the current AquaLung Titan.....a very common regulator.
If the housing (on the yellow "octo") is not cracked now it is not going to spontaneously develop a crack after 20 years.
If you can't see a crack in the case (around where the hose enters ) with a simple external examination the reg is almost certainly fine.
(the crack problem was only an issue with the yellow plastic)

I dive my USD Pro-Diver when I use my dry suit. It too must be about 15 - 20 years old and it works like my other Connies - flawlessly. The only downside to the Pro-Diver is that the first stage not only resembles an Apollo command capsule, it weighs about as much as one does too.

The Pro-Diver is a great regulator, it will work for another 30 years.

p.s. I still dive my 1956 USD DW StreamAir, their equipment was made to last a lifetime, and it does.
