I'm a Fish!
All,

I have an opportunity to pick up a NOS US Divers SEA 4 "Tech Dive" EAN regulator for a very inexpensive price. All I know about this regulator is that it is from the late 1990s and was (apparently) US Divers / Aqua-Lung's first attempt at a dedicated NITROX regulator, based on the Cousteau / SEA first stage with a "specialized" 2nd stage (SEA).

Does anyone have any comments or experience with this regulator? I've never seen one before but do tend to like the older regulators.

Any comments are appreciated.

Regards,
Ltstanfo

I can state with confidence the SEA4 first stages are rock solid. I have with about 400 dives on it and it's been rebuilt just once (I don't rebuild them unless I see the IP creeping or failing to hold its' adjustment). Their only drawback if you consider it one is they are heavy enough to be a deadly weapon.

I can't comment on those 2nd stages, I have Micras on my SEA4 set-up.

The regulator is kind of rare and I do not think alot of units were produced-sold. It is going to be the same as the US Divers Conshelf SEA 4 first/SE 4 second stage only nitrile o-rings were used. The rebuild kits are still available.

Gary,

Any Aqua-Lung dealer should be able to order your rebuild kit. Just tell them which regulator you have and they can order it.

I have two of the first stages and they are like the Eveready Bunny.....you can even get enviro kits...the second stage is just your regular demand valve, tried and true, still have one I use from time to time. The half inch port will require an adaptor if you want it to go to 3/8's....no biggie, I've used mine on singles and doubles and the hose routing works well for both.

It's a discontinued diaphragm regulator with two options: an environmental seal and a recreational EAN service kit. It's heavy but functional and parts remain available - for now. It's a bit dated and usually very inexpensive.

I wouldn't worry about the parts not being available.....the SEA uses the current HP seat that all diaphragm Aqualung regs use, also the same seat that all balanced diaphragm USD regs have used since the mid 60's.
