So I am selling my GPS unit that I used for geo-chaching and I have been talking to a guy who runs a scuba shop and he was wondering about a trade, scuba gear for the GPS. I paid 212 for the GPS, and here is what he offered me.

Well, WA is condsidered "cold water", so you'd probably be best served with a cold-water compatible reg, but those are more than what the value of your GPS is. If you limit your diving to water temps of 50-55 degrees or warmer, a decent entry-level piston regulator would get you started, but don't plan on doing any ice-diving with it. These however make great travelling regs because they are a simple design, easy to care for, and pretty rugged. I know that I have an url=http://www.aqualung.com/us/content/view/87/172/]Aqualung Calypso[/url], an Aqualung Titan, or a TUSA 130 Platina in stock. I could toss in a used Octo or cash to equalize the value of our trade.

I could also do a recently serviced (new service kits installed, re-built, and tested) mid-range cold water reg and octo from my rental dept. I stamp ID numbers in my rental/teaching regs so they don't "swim away", so it would be marked "ISC R14" for example.

If you have another type of regulator in mind, I could do that used octo and a new TUSA 3-gauge console. Those are 2 things that people "forget" they have to buy when they get a new regulator, so you'd be set up for when you do buy a reg.

I don't really want to go into sales-mode, so will briefly toss this out there too, but not so much because I don't wnat to sound like a used car salesman, lol:

If you want to tip the balance the other way, I could do a cold-water regulator plus cash, for example, for a TUSA X-Pert (which is the SAME regulator as a ScubaPro MK11/R390 except has a T on the purge cover instead of an S) or an Aqualung Legend Reg.

Depending on your size, I do have some wetsuits in stock too, mostly cold-water suits, but also a couple warm water suits. I have hoods and mitts/gloves too.

Think it over and let me know what you are interested in. I'm pretty much open to any trade; wether I trade a less expensive item and cash for your GPS, we trade even, or I give you a couple hundred bucks off a more expensive item, or items. I can give you more options tomorrow when I get to the store and see what I have.

Here is his website Innerspace Scuba - Welcome to Innerspace! I am really interested in trading him for gear but being new to scuba and not really knowing a lot about regs I thought I would shoot this by the experts(you guys) first.

I don't know too many specifics about the types of regs you are looking at, but here are some thoughts:

- You paid $212 for the gps, which is now used, so I am guess that it is worth less than $200. Any time you can get a decent reg that has been newly serviced for less than $200 you are doing pretty well IMO.

- If you are going to be doing local diving, then I would get something that will work well for where you live. Don't get a reg that doesn't perform well in cold water if cold water is where you will be diving.

I also don't know what gear you have or what you need, but the items offered seem pretty resonable to me for what you are looking to trade.
Good Luck

Well, depends on what you want and where you plan to dive, so I can't offer much advice other than to say I use an Aqua Lung Titan myself and it's an excellent reg. The coldest temp I've dove with it has been 48 degrees though.

My singles reg is an Aqualung Titan LX (so is my husband's) and they're great regs. They've been very dependable in Puget Sound for us, as well as at deeper depths in the tropics. I know we paid a great deal more than $200 for them, and that was three years ago.

sweet sounds like Im going to go ahead and get it then. I will try to talk him into a octo as well :)
