The reports of these terrible fires in So. California reminded me of a story I heard about a diver.

The story is that a diver was found in a burnt out forest, once upon a time. He had on his mask, tank, bc etc. Apparantly he was diving in a lake a few miles from a forest fire.

A fire fighting plane supposedly scooped down into the lake to pick up a load of water and snagged the helpless diver in the process.

The plane, of course, dumped the contents of the bucket on to the fire. And obviously the diver perished.

Number 1 did anyone else ever hear this story? And 2, does anyone know if it is true?

Yes I have.

No, it's not.

and a great episode of CSI

Well you learn something every day. A similar discussion apparantly took place last October.

It was funny reading about the fire divers. Thanks for the comebacks.

urban legend!!:D

I like this site to hunt out the facts behind these stories, it often provides a bit of lunch time diversion.

Oh yeah - the CSI episode was interesting as well, the only show I routinely try to watch.

Jersey once bubbled...

Thanks for asking this question. I have been wondering also.
I thought it was just a little to amazing...
Then, my friend from Brazil told me about Brazil's own "fire diver."
Hmm...
