Are there any reg companys that still produce regs with upstream 2nd stages?

i'm sure Poseidon 2nd stages are all upstream.

Your're sure? I don't think the new ones are.

The original Cyklon, the Cyklon 300 and Cyklon 5000 are all simple down stream demand valves. Actually they are all basically the same second stage (since 1957, not bad for 50 years of excellent service).

I can only think of the one Poseidon mentioned above. But, I am dying of curiosity of why are you interested on upstream 2nd stage valves?

A couple of weeks ago I rebuilt a vintage Sportsways two hose regulator (a Dual Air) with an upstream second. I was amazed that the second stage seat was still in great condition and the regulator turn out to deliver great breathing performance, but I personally never liked upstream needle valves much.

Oceanic makes/made one...

Yeah... Is that the Omega?

In any case, I am fairly certain that both of this regulators (the Poseidon Jetstream and the Oceanic) have an upstream pilot/ servo demand valve that in turns actuates the main flow valve.

Using a small pilot valve to actuate the primary valve can provide good mechanical advantage and easy breathing regulator, but it is a lot more complicated than the old upstream needle valves.

Sitting in on a GUE Fundamentals class, and the instructor made a big point about upstream/downstream regs, and I said that I didn't think anyone was still producing the upstream valves. The instructor said that he'd sure be interested in finding out if anyone still does - thus this thread. :D

Poseidon Jetstream and Xstream are both upstream seconds. The Xstream second stage is essentially a Jetstream second in a smaller body without the Jetstream's sliding dive/predive switch. Both use proprietary hoses. Oceanic is no longer producing the Omega.
