Upgrading from a rec BCD to a BP/W

I would try and find yourself some good buddies in FL. Then go diving (single tank).

After a year or maybe 100 dives, start asking questions here again, and at your LDS, and with your buddies. After 100 local dives you will be more capable of asking the right questions about everything from exposure suits, weighting, backplate materials, buoyancy/wing sizes, tank materials and sizes etc etc.

And by then you will also hopefully have a suitable likeminded buddy to help you start diving at a higher level.
 
OP.... keep up the dives and continue to expand on your basic dive experience....try poss. to find a mentor and as someone mentioned above you might consider an Intro to Tech class as a way to get a wee bit of first hand knowledge and see what is involved...it's not a certf. level but will expose you to some of the basics in tech diving.
