Okay, so I've got this Olympus Stylus 400 camera and housing that have been using for several years (usually a couple dive trips per year - nothing to excessive). It sometimes takes decent pictures, but often they're not great. I'm thinking about doing some changes, but looking for some opinions. Changes I'm thinking of are:
1) Buying a new camera and housing - nothing too fancy here, still thinking about another point-and-shoot. Trying to manage costs. I think I can get a Canon Powersoft A570 IS and housing for under $300. It sounds like that camera has a lot more user control over functions that may improve photo quality (exposure, white balance, etc.). Does this seem like a reasonable plan? Any thoughts on this camera or other cameras that may fit the bill?
2) Buying an external strobe - technically, I could probably just do this with the existing camera, but it seems like it might be worth it to upgrade the camera anyway. So far, I really know nothing about buying a strobe. Given the fact that I don't get out a lot, I don't want to get anything too expensive. Any suggestions on what to look for in a strobe or on specific strobes to consider?
I'm sure there's lots of opinions out there, and I'd love to hear them.
Thanks,
Dave
