I love all my oceanic gear. My girlfriend and I have been replacing our old gear piece by piece over the last year or so. I’m now diving an Oceanic’s Excursion, Delta 4/FDX10, Slimline2, Deluxe ProPlus2, and V12 Vortex fins. The only thing that bothers me is that the manuals for my BCD and Regs are outdated and are for older models (for the Delta 3 for example). I understand that most of the features are covered in the manual, but it would be nice to have these updated. Gear I’ve had in the past from other manufactures has had dedicated manuals for the particular model rather than shock loading all the info into a generic manual.

So, I guess my question is: Does Oceanic plans on updating some of their manuals? They are keen on the manuals for the computers, but that seems to be it.

On a side note, the DVT ball in my FDX10 is clear rather than red like some of my friends and pics I see online. I purchased it last year. Do I have an older or newer version? I heard someone say something about the earlier models only having one o-ring in the DVT rather than two like the newer ones.

thanx

Hi Roy,

We're on it.

Unfortunately not much seems to have been done since 120406.

I was preparing a "travel" copy of manuals (compressed 4-up/2-sided) for
my gear, and revisited the Oceanic website to see if they'd been updated. Nope.
I have an Islander BC and a GT3/CDX5, bought from an LDS that's a registered
Oceanic rep, and in fact special-ordered. Bought April '07. Reminded me of
this thread.

The paper manuals that came with the products do not mention either
of the products they shipped with, just older models.

In some cases features are similar, but there's some guesswork involved.
They are the same as the online pdfs, and dated 2/03 (BCs) and 6/06 (regs).
As previously noted by others, they try to cover all models in one manual,
and don't do a very thorough job of telling you which model has which
described feature.

Without being more confrontational than I have to be to raise the issue,
this is a dissatisfier to me wrt Oceanic. Quite clearly, not enough to cause
me to buy something else this time, but it is an annoyance, and would,
for example, temper my willingness to recommend their products to others.

Oceanic may have decided that the increased sales resulting from having
manuals that accurately describe their products wouldn't cover the costs
of producing them, but I have trouble with that. Good manuals add real value.
And note that I didn't start this thread; clearly others share this view.

And this is life-support equipment, and moderately complex. I'd think,
in this litiginous society, simple CYA would be enough motivation to supply an
up-to-date and accurate manual.

Hmmm. And without me retyping it all here, I'd reference the text on the
Warranty card that calls for reading the instruction manuals before using the
products. I did, although I'm not sure it was worth the time, since they
didn't describe the products I purchased. If Oceanic thinks manuals are
important enough to require reading as a condition of warranty, why do they
not think they are important enough to write?

How about it, Oceanic?
