Unusual New Cayman Dive Boat and Dive Options - InDepth Watersports

I am not familiar with InDepth Watersports on Grand Cayman but I received the email below and they have a new high-speed boat and are offering trips to both the North Wall and the East End and overnight trips to the Sister Islands! They also have a condo package that include unlimited shore dives and they offer a full menu of dive services, including tech diving.

Or maybe I am wrong and their high-speed boat isn't new, I've just never heard about it before?

I am not sure where the condos are located but from the picture showing the heavy ironshore, it might be on the north end of the west side of the island (up near Hell) - does anyone recognize these condos?

I never thought that a high-speed dive boat would be necessary in the Caymans because the reefs are so close to shore, unlike Cozumel. But this boat may open up opportunities to easily dive all sides of the island, in all kinds of weather, and even excursions to the sister islands - although I imagine that would be pricey because they are 90 miles away and fuel is so expensive.

I also remember getting very seasick during the deep water crossing to the sister islands on the Cayman Aggressor - so if you are prone to seasickness this may not be an attractive option.

But in the past I have read comments on SB about divers wanting to do deep dives around the sister islands, but there are no dive ops on Little Cayman or Cayman Brac that are able to support that type of diving. This high-speed boat may make that option easier to achieve.

Maybe one of the dive ops on Provo should invest in a high-speed boat for shorter, easier trips to West Caicos and French Cay in the Turks and Caicos!

I recognize them - I believe it is Coconut Bay. Right next door to Macabuca. Excellent shore diving. Thanks for sharing, we might look into this more. It's a very nice property.

That would be great, easier to get to and a little less likely to get winded out on shore dives than locations further north.

That boat is not new at all. I believe In-Depth started on Brac based at Divi and when Divi shut down and Craig left to go back to the states, Nat moved the operation to Grand. Craig was always interested in going out to non-traditional sites such as some of the isolated banks and seamounts offshore, but I think the Reef Divers folks frowned on it a bit when he worked there. He offered to take us to one once on a boat I was on with Brac Reef, but a couple of the divers were newer and weren't excited about the open ocean drift dive aspect of it. So we stayed and did a run around the Brac instead. Their boat would get you out to those sites in a hurry, but I am not sure it would be the smoothest or most comfortable ride along the way.

@KathyV - it can still get a little rough but when we were there the first week in January last year, we were able to shore dive on 3 of the 6 days we were there with basically no current. We could have done a 4th day but couldn't fit it in with the topside activities our travel companions wanted to do. The hardpan had loads of interesting critters and the top of the mini wall is fantastic. I could have stayed there watching turtles and juvenile fish all day and not have minded if we skipped going to the bottom of the mini wall. I wonder if they'll start heavier marketing for DPVs like DiveTech has done at Lighthouse Point to help people get out to the main wall? We never wanted to do the long swim and suck all our air down just to see the main wall for 10 minutes before heading back.

@KathyV In-Depth has had that RIB for years. They did get a new boat in January, but that is not it.

The rentals are Coconut Bay. I've stayed in the rentals three times, they come with a full kitchen, decent shore diving, and can sleep six comfortably.

I think they have a very appealing offer. They definitely need some help with their website though

Definitely not a new boat. I've seen it over at the west bay dock a couple of times. Not much room to move around or gear up. The engines left a residue of dense smoke and a lot of oil on the water surface by the dock. I certainly would never consider crossing open ocean to get to LC or the Brac on that thing. The condo at Coconut Bay however, is at a great location right on Hep's.
