I called my health insurance provider (United Healthcare) today and asked them if they had any exclusions for scuba accidents. They said they did not. I asked them if they covered recompression treatments and they were unable to answer, telling me they needed a 'billing code' for the treatment in order to look it up. This was after a discussion about how any treatment needed to be pre-approved, whereupon I explained it was likely a recompression treatment candidate would either be unconscious or in too much pain to bother phoning in a request for treatment.
So I'm wondering, does anyone with United Healthcare have any experience with scuba accident treatment? Can I take them at their word that they cover scuba accidents (by not having exclusions for it) or should I still go with a DAN membership?
