Hollis Underwater Notebook | Dive Right In Scuba - Plainfield, IL - Dive Right in Scuba

I have one of these. It's nice. Expensive for what it is but I like it. If you do take one practice using it a lot when you don't need to. Get in the habit of writing notes on the fly and while hovering so you dont sink and kick up the bottom while trying to write.

My sidemount and wreck instructor used one and basically gave all instructions and critiques while we were underwater using his notebook. It was really cool and helpful to be able to get immediate feedback and he could change the plan as he saw fit. Now I carry one and used it a lot when diving with my wife because she was newly certified. Anytime I saw any confusion in her eyes I pulled out my notebook and wrote it down just to make sure she got it.

When we were at one dive park they had a brass plaque on the bottom to commemorate a fallen diver and the park. I used the thin sheet to make a rubbing of the plaque. It came out pretty good and is a nice little souvenir.

I always carry a slate. If I write on it, a combination of a 3M sponge/scrub and stovetop cleaner can remove any trace of my previous conversation

I have one and will occasionally use it. Best way to clean it is Soft Scrub or toothpaste.

i like a slate if you don't have pockets because it clips on quite nicely. My suit has pockets so I prefer wetnotes. I rarely use them but LOVE having them when there is a need. If you have wetnotes be sure to carry several pencils - they get soft in the water and the tips break easily.
I don't carry a pencil sharpener ;-)

Old-school cheapo slate is fine for me. golf scorecard pencils give me an unlimited supply. Cleanup is easy with Ajax or even toothpaste.

"if you have it, you won't need it", and vice-versa.

I sell and use wrist slates and wetnotes. Price wise they are about the same. For many people a wrist slate works just fine. They are not hard to erase. A regular pink eraser from staples works just fine. I would not put much stock in Amazon reviews. Many of them look like they were written by less than rocket scientist types if ya know what I mean.

On one surface I will often keep a list of commonly used terms/words and it never gets erased. Breathe, relax, slow down, time?, pressure?, etc. The other surfaces are for short conversations. The ones I sell also come with bungees and that is what holds the slates in place. The ones that use o rings are junk. I've had two of them fail not long after being taken out of the packaging. I sell the Edge wrist slate and the XS Scuba one.

On tech dives, teaching dives, and most any dives I also carry a set of wet notes. I have two that I use all the time. One is for general recreational classes and the other for tech classes and dives. The wetnotes I have are identical to all the vinyl covered ones. You just don't pay more for the logo that is printed on some of them.

My own personal wet notes are in cordura covers and I have a couple of them in stock for sale as well.

i have tons of those around, best eraser ever
