I just acquired a used Oly C-7070 and I have been playing around with it tonight to set the "my Modes". The camera includes two scene modes for underwater - underwater wide and underwater macro - does anyone use these scene modes? Or do you use the "normal" scene mode?

Playing around with the camera tonight it appears I can get better focus chosing Manual mode and AF Mode to iESP. Using spot mode and any of the underwater modes the camera wants to do a "double focus" and the second focus is not all that clear. Plus underwater I want as short of a lag time as possible.

I do use the Oly housing and ys-90auto strobe.

Any comments are appreciated.

Thanks

After shooting 1000 photos in Belize with my SP-320, I stopped using underwater mode after the first dive or two.......

Go straight to manual mode, and get used to flipping through your shutter speed and f-stop. You get the hang of how much light to throw real quick, and I was even up to 1600th of a second for full power flash in macro mode. Keeps the photo crisp and sharp, plus adds a nice black background instead of blue for those distance shots.

With the 7070 iESP is the best for focussing, another trick is to hold the button down until you have taken the shot, pressing half way for focus, then taking the shot has issues with focussing.

In terms of lag time, put your flash into Slave Mode and power your Strobe with the Slave rather have the Pre-Flash Mode on, this will speed things up.

Having the camera on Wide Zoom sppeds things up, On Tele Zoom things do slow.

I also find in low light/contrast situation there is a focal dance, to fix this, use a target light and aim for the subject

I have more tips on my Web Site http://www.almity1.com
