I've wanted to use a detector also. Keep us posted in anything you find...

Scubawishes, I too would love to help..but you are a tad far! I just did a dive looking for a fused set of wedding rings for a couple...zero luck...but like you, we wanted to try...I wish you the best of luck!

I'm glad I ran across this thread with the links. I used to do quite well with land detecting a while back, long before I was diving; and here on Boracay, I have met hundreds of people claiming to have lost jewelry. My ex girlfriend even lost 3 peices in a single afternoon here. I have no idea why women insist on wearing these silver necklaces and charm bracelets in the water. And older hairy guys.... they're always in the water with gold bracelets and chains. I dont know if its a combination of hair and salt-water... i dunno :joke:

The other day I was just walking along the waterline and found a bunch of coins that had been under the sand for quite some time, well corroded. Imagine a metal detector. Thanks guys, I'm gonna look into this equip ASAP!

Thanks folks - I probably should've posted back here as well as in my other thread. The ring was thankfully found the day after I lost it thanks to a really nice guy who went out and found it for me. :) Thanks to Scuba Board, or I'd not have had it back at all!

It is illeagel to metal detect in the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. This includes from beneath the water to the high water line! No beach combing here!

Be very careful where you detect. I know it is not aloud in many state and federal parks, especially historic parks. Off the gold coast in Florida you need salvage rights to hit some of the areas legally or risk jumping salvage claims which could result in jail time and confiscation of equipment.

Do research prior to detecting federal or state lands to be safe.

How close to the spot where you lost it can you get? Very important. Is there a lot of trash in the area? ergo pop tops, gum wrapers, fish sinkers, etc etc.? Water is shallow. How shallow is it? I think I could talk you through it from here. Florida. Or if your going to DEMA I could talk to you in person. I think I'm in booth 4833. I think. Carl Fismer

I have been detecting for almost 40 years. I have learned lessons the hard way. First of all what type of detector do you have? They are all good to a point or they wouldn't be in business. In my opinion pulse induction is the best thing to come down the road since I started metal detecting. I love machines with meters. I don't use ear phones, or a bone phone. I have tried machines with ground tuning, and they are pretty good, but I'd rather set the meter myself. There are pro's and con's to this, but after you use your machine at least 100 times you get to know it. If you come to DEMA stop by and I will demonstrate for you. Carl Fismer Spanish Main Treasure #4833 I think
