On my last trip to RTB (CCV back in '23), I remember seeing an underwater memorial. Don't recall much else, but IIRC, it was for a female. Comparing notes to a friend that dove RTB last year (unfortunately off a cruise ship - said his diving was done by AKR (presumably must have been off the south side - the sites he discussed were not the common ones that resort guests typically see)). Said one of his dives included an underwater memorial, but was for a guy, supposedly someone instrumental in popularizing RTB diving.

Is there a catalogue of underwater dive memorials off or RTB? Or is this ringing a bell for anyone?

This was most likely the memorial to Tulio Gomez who tragically passed at Pirate’s Point in 2005 (well before my time in Roatan). There are other plaques throughout the island.

The most notable, for me personally, is the one for Rino Jackson at a site in West Bay known as Rinophores. Rino was an avid nudi hunter with some of the best eyes on the island. He discovered a number of new species and was one of the kindest souls I have ever encountered. His sister Liana now runs his dive shop, Jackson’s Dive Centre, in West End.
