I'm thinking about getting one of these. I've have heard in other threads to stay away from HID because they won't light if the batteries aren't nearly new. My question is, is this true with this particular light. Does anyone have experience with this same light?

Another issue is, let's say it does only lasts 10 ignitions, if I use rechargeable's won't that be a small issue? I heard some people talking about LED's. From my experience with above water LED lights, they aren't very bright...

With that in mind, aren't HID's better lights than LED's assuming they work ok?

Thanks.

I have UK 100 HID cannon for more than 2 years and I love it. My dive buddy has led light and it is not as bright as mine. His is good for broad and closer while mine can see farther out and focus better.

I use Durcell and Energizer batteries for my HID light. I heard that some batteries will not work for this type of light.

I am not quite sure about rechargable batteries and I would be very curious about that.

FWIW I have the UK LC 100 HID and a LED unit.

Without question the HID is brighter and much more focused. On the other hand the LED (in my case the Princeton Tec Shockwave eLED) lasts a *LOT* longer on a single set of batteries (4 dive hours and still going strong); the broader beam is quite nice when searching for items in dark water and my buddies don't get quite as peeved when I accidently hit them in the eyes with the eLed beam.

Quite honestly I use the eLed much more often when diving than the HID but the HID is nice when you really need it.

So, what kind of battery life exactly do you get with the HID?

I have the Light Cannon. Using batteries I get about 6 dives. I am using using the rechargeable battery pack however and there I get about 2 hours per charge. It's long enough to get two 1 hour dives for sure.

The light is much brighter (carries further) than a LED. I do have a small LED as a backup light. They don't use a lot of battery power and therefore are good for this role.

On the HID I get a reliable hour or two. After that, if I go too deep (gets cold) depending on the battery, I may lose the light completely. It comes back once you ascend to warmer levels but having the light go out at 80ft in murky/dark conditions (even with a backup light) is a bit of a 'heart racer'. One of the downsides of colder dive areas.

I usually use Duracel, non-rechargeables.

Light goes out at depth? I've used the UK HID on the Doria. Doesn't get much colder or darker. Worked fine all the way through the dive. Call UK and get it replaced. They're good about that kind of thing.

I have the cannon 100 also and love it. It is worth its' weight in gold. Get the rechargable battery pack and then you don't have to worry about buying batteries or what shape they are in. Plug it in when you get home and you are good for the next dive. I get about 2 hours and 40 minutes on my battery.
