But I have so many questions... would you actually be able to hear the pings, or would they be in a frequency undetectable? How about the wildlife?

Our dive team has something that does something similar, it’s called aqua eye, it’s more for recoveries though, and it wasn’t cheap. We paid like 5 grand for it

I think the compelling thing here is this is just software for existing smart watches like Apple Watch Ultra.

Yep, they state in the article that they are looking for industry partners to help develop it.
