On the Lynne scale:

Perfect: On the way into a place like Mayan Blue. There's really water in here?

Excellent: 75 - 100 feet. In Cozumel, I'm 100 feet above the reef and can see the fish on it. In Puget Sound, I can see all the way across Cove 2.

Good: 30 - 50. In Maui, I'm starting to get irritated because the water isn't clear; in Puget Sound, I can see further than my light will throw.

Fair: Normal 10 - 15 foot Puget Sound viz.

Poor: Diving with my nose 6" off the bottom in order to SEE the bottom. There is where I begin to consider going out to lunch instead.

No viz: I can't see my buddy's HID light on descent. If that's not a surface layer you can break out of, I'm going home.
