Is anyone familiar with this magazine? Can you give me some feedback. They claim to be the best when it comes to info on dive sites, hotels, operators, etc.

I enjoy Undercurrent for their candid reviews of equipment, destinations, dive operators, etc. It seems to be a low-budget operation. It's basically a newsletter with no color illustrations. The articles are concise but informative.

Check out their Website at www.undercurrent.org

The fact that I've never read a negative review of a dive operator or piece of equipment makes me think that most are possibly a bit biased or don't want to offend potential advertisers.

However, I really don't know and would love to hear from others who know what the best non-biased dive publications are.

I enjoy Undercurrent too. A rather different perspective on diving and safety. No ads.

I've only skimmed the reviews of charter operations in the Travelin' Divers Chapbook, (which comes along with your subscription) but there are negative reviews in there--at least one of which I disagree with, but it's nice to see unedited reviews by divers instead of polished pieces by copywriters. Or make that "in addition to" the latter.

I've gotten ads from them but don't subscribe. But based on what I know about them, I think you can get the same thing right here on SB. I'm not sure how often UC goes to the various sites, but it can't be much different than just posting a thread here.

In my experience most posters on SB will not name the outfit that they give a negative report about, frightened of being sued.

But if you post a question about a particular destination, most will tell you where they've had good experiences. And I have seen negative reports. You can't be sued for telling about your experience.
